Keep reading for my tips to find the wedding dress for you!
Do your research
Before going to any appointments you should have an idea of the cut, color and a few examples of dresses that catch your eye. So when you arrive to the store you are prepared and you can discuss your options with your consultant and you will feel more confident with your choices.
Who to bring?
Narrow your list of who you plan to bring with you to your appointments to just a couple of close family / friends. This should consist of those people whose opinion you truly value and that you think would be most helpful when decision time comes. Too many opinions could confuse you and bringing no one with you could leave you feeling lost.
When to begin your search?
You should begin your dress search about 6-8 months before the wedding and allow time for alterations because more often than not you will need to get your dress altered for the best fit.
Make your plan
Decide which stores you would like to go to and in what order. Base this upon your price range, if they offer services you may need like alterations.
Keep your options open
Often times you may go into the store with an exact dress in mind, but the right one for you might be completely opposite than what you imagined! Come prepared with an idea of the type of dress you’d like to find, but also stay open to what the consultant my suggest, since they have lots of knowledge in the array of dresses that may fit you best!
Budget
Set your budget and make sure everyone is aware of it and most importantly stick to it. One thing many people forget is to keep in mind the cost of alterations in addition to the dress itself. Make sure to ask about that price before you settle on a dress.
Alterations
The right fit is equally as important as the dress itself. This is something my consultant Shannon stressed in my appointment. So make the most of the fittings and alterations that you go through. Bring up any concerns you have about the fit or anything you want altered!
Make a day of it
You will be there for a while ( Try to keep it to only 2 stores a day for about 2 hours per store max.) For the sake of your and your guests sake try to eat before to be better energized for shopping!
And as always enjoy this part of your wedding planning. The dress is important but think of the bigger picture of why you are dress shopping in the first place ( you’re getting married to the love of your life!) So enjoy your time with your family and friends that are there to help and support you. Relax, laugh and shed a couple of happy tears if you’d like.
Do you have a favorite style/cut of wedding dress? Mine was definitely fit and flare. What is yours? Comment below and tell me what you wore to your wedding or what you dream of wearing one day!
